acting
and dressing professionally, filing documents correctly, and using
systems correctly.
All
of these general basic policies may seem obvious to you, however
to a new employee they are not obvious at all. This is why it
is important to make sure your employees are all aware of the
polices your business has and the location of your Policy and
Procedure Manual so they can refer to it on a regular basis.
A
policy and procedure manual is a tool that they can use as a reference
base when they have any questions. If you are constantly getting
bugged by your staff asking basic questions, then you need a policy
and procedure manual. This eliminates wasting time and spending
time on tasks that are really quite straight forward and simple.
So
what are some specific examples to add to a Procedure Manual and
a Policy Manual? Consider this list.
-
A Mission Statement
- History of your business
- Dress Code
- Time to Start and Finish Work
- How to open/close the business for the day
- Who to report to
- Business Owners - Who owns the business
- Leave policies
- Equal Opportuntiy Policies
- Anti-Discrimination Polices
- How to Access systems
- Human Resource Issues
- How to perform tasks
- How to operate Machinery
- What to do in Emergencies
- Important Phone numbers
- Conditions of Entitlements
This
is just a preliminary list of all the things that should be in
a Polices and Procedures Manual. Obviously you can add some significant
things to suit your business. Using a template is certainly going
to make a difference in generating a manual and save you considerable
time and effort.
